I wondered how safe Lucy Letby’s conviction was, and a brilliant 13,000-worder in The New Yorker this week has made me even more concerned she’s innocent. It’s been blocked online in the UK due to her retrial next month over one case of attempted murder, but is available in print.

Could Lando Norris make it two wins on the bounce this weekend? And while Adrian Newey is surely Ferrari-bound, could there be any truth in the Williams rumours? Here’s my Emilia Romagna GP preview… metro.co.uk/2024/05/16/lan… via Metro Sport

As always, a sublime feed at WILTONS Restaurant. I’m always impressed, also, how the restaurant deftly accommodates warring factions of the Conservative Party. Tonight, on one side of the room (and at the table next to mine) Sir John Major, on the other Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg.

I was honoured to be invited to Westminster Abbey to memorialise one of the very greatest racing drivers England has ever produced: Sir Stirling Moss. His 300 SLR was there to pay its respects too.

Predictably, perhaps, Donald Trump has claimed credit for Lando Norris's Miami GP win yesterday. Lando's the sport's most popular winner in years, but I'm not sure his comments about him having 'a lot of respect' for Trump, or meeting him being 'a cool moment' are so endearing.

Worth pointing out that winning London mayoral race by 10pts (Curtice projection) when your party is 26pts ahead nationally and 34pts ahead in your city (YouGov) would be an utterly awful performance.

If it came down to a choice between Horner and Newey, I'm not sure Red Bull have chosen wisely. Ferrari with Hamilton and Newey would be the biggest box office. But I suspect Lawrence Stroll's blank cheque could swing it. And Alonso-Newey could be quite something.
