This is one of my very favourite places.
We grew up in South Manchester surrounded by lots of lovely Jewish families and I've always thought of Manchester's identity as being Jewish. The warmth, friendliness, beauty and history of this place make me feel very nostalgic.

I was just reminded by some children at school of Michael Rosen's poem 'These are the Hands'. I'd forgotten that during the pandemic I wrote a piece based on the rhythm of this poem and got some friends to record the separate parts in isolation (remember!) youtube.com/watch?v=YyVmT1…

I'm doing a gig on 5th May at The Trades Club with some really brilliant musical friends. Do come along. It's all in aid of Music for the Many, where we work REALLY hard to make music education equally available to all our children. Do come along to it. thetradesclub.com/events/many

If St. George were alive today he'd have been very privileged, comfortably off and able to travel freely as a high-ranking member of a very powerful imperial army. Then he'd become a Christian, repent and resign, but probably would still be quite wealthy.

Every village hall and church in the country has a set of these, in green or blue, occasionally yellow. They always go together with a massive urn or huge steel teapot.

To me they symbolise the best of the UK’s communities and civil society.

If you’re sick of bad news, tune in to Pick of the Week tonight on R4.
I only featured radio that reflects the best of us.
