PARTHENOPE is filled to the brim with vibrant imagery that is absolutely stunning to behold. It’s a tale that uses allegory to tell its story, a tactic that can often leave the multiple characters hollow and the bloated narrative lethargic. Based purely on vibes, it’s endearing.

ANORA is a wildly energetic yarn that bursts out the gate with a lot of captivating energy. Mikey Madison holds the frame with her ferocious persona, and Baker weaves a wonderful chaotic tension. Gets a bit repetitive but equally delivers impactful humor and endearing emotion.

LA PAMPA examines the intimate friendship between two young men and the violent consequences that arise when secrets are revealed. Antoine Chevrollier captures an endearing kinship but one laments another tale of gay suffering. Sayyid El Alami delivers a captivating performance.

THE SHROUDS is not the most emotional Cronenberg film but it is the one that feels the most nakedly transparent in representing the artist’s own fears on death, sex and technology. It’s an awkward assembly with stilted dialogue, but the core has a surprisingly effective impact.

Well… looks like we have a genuine Oscar contender on our hands (assuming something doesn’t get lost in translation on this side of the Atlantic)

HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA aims to tell a sprawling story of the harsh living in the Old West, beautifully capturing the grand scope. The incomplete narrative and scattered characters are a deficiency, but Costner delivers an endearing homage to vast, epic storytelling.

HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA - Chapter 1 naturally feels incomplete, serving as an extended introduction to many characters and storylines, much like the initial episodes of a miniseries. As with a television show, I found some aspects more engaging than others. Perhaps it will work

I was pleasantly surprised by THE GARFIELD MOVIE, which over-eggs the plot but has real heart and a love for Jim Davis’s comic strip. Check my review:
