Since banning phones we have seen such an incredible impact on children's wellbeing and learning.

We have been overwhelmed at how quickly children become children again. They are happier

The Times came to our school to speak to children and staff 👇👇

This was a really good podcast discussion between Daisy Christodoulou and Prof Rose Luckin Rose Luckin's EDUCATE Ventures | AI for Education about AI in education, from autumn last year. Finally got around to it this morning and can recommend. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the…

In the 70s, Herbert Simon predicted that as information became cheap, attention would grow scarce.

He was right. And it’s a challenge for everyone in ed tech. You can create a brilliant app, but how do you get students to pay attention to it?

The deployment of Large language models (LLMs) in education rubs up against a fundamental human problem: attention and its scarcity.

We made the list! I'm thrilled to share that we've been approved by the Colorado Department of Education as an evidence-based phonics provider. We're happy to be part of the movement towards evidence-based reading instruction in the USA!

A good piece by Daisy, reflecting that LLMs are great at the broad sweep of language but bad at the 'picky details' that distinguish good curriculum sequencing & pedagogy from bad. Also, they're not necessarily ideal for channelling precious learning attention.

My latest article on AI and education for Engelsberg Ideas

Will LLMs be capable of being “teacherbots”?

2 problems.

1) they are terrible at detail - and detail really matters.

2) will students pay attention to them sufficiently to learn?

In my quest for getting right in RE, I have discovered a goldmine of sensible information on the topic. Assisted too by my course, I now understand why I've been v v v frustrated with our current model. Thanks Daisy Christodoulou
