Great study highlighting the challenge facing remote islands of waste being (illegally) discarded at sea. Hopefully this will put pressure on manufacturers of single-use items to take responsibility for the harm they are indirectly causing.

Field sampling day 15 May 2024. Tad bit of snowy bleaching, fishy predators and coral rubbles but still, beautiful coral reefs in Chumbe Island Coral Park. Fingers crossed for some recovery in June! 🪸🪸Thank you Jens Zinke and University of Leicester and CENTA for the support 🇬🇧

Sea surface temperature anomalies in the Indian Ocean predict the magnitude of global dengue epidemics, according to a new Science study.

The findings suggest that the climate indicator could enhance the forecasting and planning for outbreak responses. scim.ag/70b

In a new paper (rdcu.be/dH0sx) we apply a CMI approach to show that variations in coral calcification mechanisms associated with their skeletal microstructure cause significant chemical and isotopic heterogeneity = a big role in generating proxy 'vital effects'. 1/2

Wow, okay. My comment in The Guardian has a lot of wing nuts foaming at the mouth. Nothing good can come from attacking scientists — we are speaking up because we care about what’s happening to our planet. No amount of hate will stop us from trying to protect the places we love.
