Meld was one of the great post-war fillies. Owned by Lady Zia Wernher and trained by Capt Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, she won the 1000 Guineas in 1955 (picture) en-route to completing the Fillies Triple Crown.
Meld bred the 1966 Derby winner Charlottown.

Godiva's first race in 1940 was the 1000 Guineas, ridden by 17-year-old apprentice Doug Marks, which she won easily by 5L. After cantering home at Hurst Park, she produced a remarkable effort in the Oaks. Tailed off after half-a-mile, Godiva sailed home by 3L from Silverlace.

From humble beginnings (finishing 8th in a seller on debut) Rockfel developed into a filly of exceptional merit, winning the 1938 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Champion Stakes. Rockfel ended the year bracketed on 9st 7lbs (with Derby hero Bois Roussel) in the 3-year-old Free Handicap.

Alfred Munnings oil on canvas of Saucy Sue winning the 1925 Oaks by 8 lengths with Frank Bullock up. Probably best of the many good fillies owned by the 2nd Viscount Astor, Saucy Sue topped the 1924 Free Handicap, and added the 1000 Guineas, in brilliant style by 6 lengths.

Owned and bred by Lord D'Abernon and trained by George Lambton, Diadem raced for six seasons, winning 24 of her 39 career starts. Although best at sprint distances, Diadem landed odds of 6/4 in the 1917 1000 Guineas with a half-length defeat of Sunny Jane.

Trained by Dawson Waugh, Tagalie was a pillar-to-post winner of the 1000 Guineas and Derby in 1912.
A change of Jockey from Johnny Reiff to George Stern in the Oaks led to different tactics with the filly finishing unplaced. She never recovered her classic winning form again.

Electra, by the sprinter Eager out of a sister to Hammerkop, was a high-class filly that won the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and Park Hill Stakes in 1909. She bred four winners, the best of which was the bad tempered dual Champion Stakes winner Orpheus.

Owned and bred by Lord Wavertree, Cherry Lass was by Triple Crown hero Isinglass out of the famous mare Black Cherry.
Cherry Lass won ten races, including the 1905 1000 Guineas, Oaks, St James's Palace Stakes and Nassau Stakes before failing to stay in the St Leger.

Pretty Polly has solid claims to be regarded as the greatest filly in the history of the English Turf. An idol of the racing public after her brilliant, unbeaten, nine-race juvenile campaign, she reappeared in the 1904 1000 Guineas...Here, she landed odds of 4/1 ON in a canter.

Sceptre was a giant of the English Turf. Along with her unique record of four Classic victories, this remarkable filly with an iron constitution, contested the Derby, Oaks, Grand Prix de Paris, Coronation Stakes and St James's Palace Stakes in little more than a fortnight in 1902

Lord Brassey's Winifreda won the 1000 Guineas in 1900. That year saw all five Classics won by St Simon's progeny: Diamond Jubilee having swept the Triple Crown and La Roche the Oaks.
Winifreda, was trained by Tom Jennings Jnr.

La Fleche completed the 1892 Fillies Triple Crown. Her only loss that season came in the Derby, when she was the victim of an incompetent ride, finishing second to Sir Hugo. She settled matters with Sir Hugo decisively in the St Leger.

Of the 12 individual Classic winners owned by Lord Falmouth, Wheel Of Fortune may have been the best. She was certainly regarded by Fred Archer as the greatest filly he rode. Wheel Of Fortune won all bar one of her races in a canter, including the 1879 1000 Guineas and Oaks.

Bought by Lord Lonsdale for 200gns, Pilgimage proved a thoroughly top-class racemare, winning both the 1000 and 2000 Guineas in 1878.
Sold to Mr J. W. Larnach for 160gns aged 19, she was believed to be barren, but was in fact carrying 1898 Derby winner Jeddah.

Apology, winner of the 1874 Fillies Triple Crown, may have been a little fortunate in that her generation was not conspicuously rich in talent, but she did go on to win the Ascot Gold Cup as a 5-year-old. A disappointing broodmare, she was shot in April 1888, aged 17.

Achievement was a full-Sister to 1866 Triple Crown winner Lord Lyon. Trained at East Ilsley by James Dover, he always considered the filly superior to her elder brother. Achievement won the 1867 1000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes, Great Yorkshire Stakes, St Leger and Doncaster Cup.

Formosa became the first recipient of the Fillies Triple Crown in 1868. She set a notable record by racing unbeaten in four Classics (sharing the 2000 Guineas in a desperate finish with Moslem), but took the other three by clear-cut margins, including the Oaks by 10 lengths.

Virago was the greatest filly of the 19th Century according to the Sporting Times Poll of 1886.
In 1854 she won the Great Metropolitan and City & Suburban Handicap's on the same afternoon, 1000 Guineas, Nassau Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks, Goodwood and Doncaster Cups.
