4a PSPS update: We are in the process of restoring power to ~940 customers in the south Kohala area of Hawaii Island who are impacted by our Public Safety Power Shutoff program. ~1,175 customers were initially impacted after high winds and dry conditions prompted a PSPS outage

Crews from Hawaiian Electric - Hawaii Island were scheduled to begin work at first light to restore power in South Kohala, where about 960 customers were without service early Thursday. Power was shut down Wednesday night to reduce the risk of fire under a "Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS)."

All customers affected by South Kohala Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) have had power restored, Hawaiian Electric - Hawaii Island reports. An unplanned outage in North Kohala, caused in part by a downed tree, continued to affect about 2000 customers.
