New paper🚨
Happy to see this paper w/Pit Rieger finally out at EJPR! We study the role of geography in shaping public support for the EU, focusing on border regions. In contrast to past work, we find that border regions vote more eurosceptic. For more ⤵️

Scandalous decision by European Commission to liberate €10 billion for Hungary… signalling that blackmail beats Ukraine solidarity, good governance and EU values.
I withdraw my confidence in Ursula von der Leyen and this Commission !
😭 European Commission unfreezes €10bn to Orban’s kleptocracy, pretending HU suddenly has independent courts & respects rights. A betrayal of 🇭🇺civil society/🇪🇺taxpayers. Ursula von der Leyen could’ve let EU Council own this, but she does now. Will European Parliament deem her fit for a 2nd term?
The “deal” that Viktor Orbán just extorted from the EU reminds me of what a lawyer at an NGO told R. Daniel Kelemen & I about the Commission’s pliable approach to enforcing EU law (in an interview for our “Where have the Guardians Gone” article):
