Stunningly detailed red jasper intaglio depicting the sculptor Phidias’ chryselephantine statue of Athena Parthenos, which stood in the Parthenon in Athens. It’s signed by the Greek engraver Aspasius.

The upper part of a Roman statue of Tyche with some of the original paint that was found in Prusias ad Hypium (now in Düzce Province, #Turkey ). It dates to 2nd C AD and is on display in the marvelous Istanbul #Archaeology Museums in #Istanbul , Turkey which I visited again today.

For me she is the star of the mummy portraits show. She wears a golden victory wreath, sign that she has conquered death. Her pearls are HUGE and pose the question whether they are real or if the artist exaggerated them to adorn her with the utmost and most costly beauty in death
