Since 2020, Stuart Potts has housed hundreds of homeless people in his own one-bed flat. I’ve been spending time there over the last few months. My latest for The Guardian Long Read theguardian.com/society/2024/a…

Eike Schmidt, former director of the Uffizi in Florence and newly appointed director of the Capodimonte in Naples, is now running to be mayor of Florence – which should make the merry-go-round of top jobs in Italian museums, described here by Catherine Bennett, even more complicated.

I read that long article in The Atlantic, the one about sailing the Icon of the Seas. Regardless what you think of the piece, its value, quality etc, the magazine spent $19,000 on the ticket. Plus the writer's fee. Plus his flights and probably other expenses. Utterly wild.

Discovered this old piece through the *other* Cut piece, and it encapsulates why I am sick of handing my partner - the person in our relationship who has allergies - tissues all the time. 'Men are walking around empty-handed, uncompelled to be useful.' thecut.com/2019/07/if-men…

This, plus: regular bouts of nausea, indigestion, pain medication that does little to help, feeling faint, etc etc. I probably 'lose' about 2 working days a month because of the pain. I say 'lose' because I still work, I have to - but it's a horrible struggle.

Last year, there was a period when I was on a night train between Venice and Stuttgart at least once a week, and I still think about the magic of arriving in Venice in the morning. I wrote about Europe's night train renaissance for AFAR Media. afar.com/magazine/how-n…

Transport makes cities. When disabled people contend with this stress, frustration and disempowerment each time we travel, it sends a message about who the city is for - and who is not welcome.

30,000 new homes in three years is pitiful and it's embarrassing that the government is bragging about this. We need roughly 500,000 new homes a year to even hope to alleviate France's housing crisis.
