I would have been stuck trying to wipe the disks of these old computers until I remembered I had a folder full of old CD-ROMs, some of which were old MacOS install disks.

Now wiping the disk and installing Mac OS 10.3 (Panther). :-D

It's #Eclipse2024 day! We currently have filtered sunshine in Buffalo due to high cirrus clouds. Forecast is for lower clouds to move in this afternoon, which means eclipse viewing here will be touch and go, but it's going to be a wondrous experience regardless.

Even if we get clouded out, Lake Erie should make a good backdrop for eclipse darkness photos.

With folding chairs, cameras, and eclipse glasses packed, we're off to Buffalo today. Why Buffalo? Because we made hotel and dinner reservations there a year ago. 🤷‍♂️

Hah! I actually did this and nearly won the lottery with the number 4. If I'd been born 3 days later I would have had number 1! However, my birth year was late enough that by the time I became eligible for the draft after college, the draft had ended.

Even worse, those 33 knot winds with gusts to 49 are at a 30 degree angle to Runway 4L and 4R and a 20 degree angle to runway 9. Not a good day for flying.

I'm all in favor of autopilot-based cars and trucks as a human driver assistance system to reduce workload, just as we've had in aircraft for the last 50 years. But allowing autonomous driving without human monitors on roads shared with people is just irresponsible today.

Tesla is constantly dinged by regulators and NHTSA for allowing its cars to self-drive without human monitoring. But when it comes to self-driving 35,000-pound trucks without monitors, the attitude seems to be, 'Sure, what could possibly go wrong?'
