🚨Today’s inflation figures show food price inflation increased by 30% compared to April 2021, when prices started to accelerate. 📈

While the main rate of inflation has come down, essentials like food and energy still cost much more. 🍞💷

1.1 million people in Scotland were confirmed today to be living in poverty.

240,000 children.

The Parliament's own interim child poverty targets almost certain to be missed?

Will it come up at ?

Poverty stats out and showing bad news, still 240k children locked in poverty. Interim child poverty targets now presumably will be missed.😡

The SG need to wake up and deliver on their stated commitment to poverty reduction and Parliament needs to hold them to account to do so

A reminder that despite it being good news that inflation has come down a lot today, benefit increases still lag behind overall, food and energy inflation, with the gap opening up over the last three years. Overall inflation up 20%, food up 30%, energy up 75%, benefits up 13.5%.

🚨Poverty Stats out on Thursday morning🚨

Have had this on my banner for a while but this week will show if it is nearly too late for the interim targets.

The message is still true but we need ambition and urgency.

SG need to show it is genuinely their first priority.

Anyone who defends the status quo in Holyrood or Westminster accepts the realities of this article.

The last SG budget risks worsening this situation not improving it. We can’t accept that the SG’s money is spent and we’re stuck.

All Scottish parties need to bring answers.

The is a budget for big earners and big owners.

Instead of real support for those in hardship, we saw a short-term patching up of the government's own failed systems.

Crucial work from Bevan Foundation. Cost of living crisis far from over in Wales (like the rest of the UK).

Big challenge for next FM.

The Scottish Government have published a new Cumulative Impact Assessment today on child poverty policies: gov.scot/publications/c…

Need to digest it more but it looks like it needs treated with 'caution' on poverty rates (to quote the publication).

If so many key members of the Strategic Board for Scottish Government’s flagship ‘Housing to 2040’ policy are all calling for the huge cuts to the housing budget to be reversed then there has to be a serious question about levels of confidence in whether the policy can be delivered?

Humza Yousaf has been urged to ditch a “devastating” £190million housing cash cut in this week’s Scottish budget amid soaring rents and a homelessness emergency.
