Heaving Easter event Bulwell forest garden this afternoon.

Bumped into my friends from Nottingham National Literacy Trust too - they were asking visitors to put up their favourite books!

Have you sown your sweetpeas, its not too late to start some off now! Pop a few in a pot and transfer outside when the seedlings have established. #seedstosownow

The female Hairy-footed flower bee, #HFFB looks rather like a small black bumblebee, with distinctive orange pollen baskets on her hind legs.
These super fast little solitary bees are often the first to emerge, sometimes as early as February.

Bumblebees and butterflies are now emerging from hibernation. Growing nectar-rich plants like these can be a real lifeline for hungry pollinators – and letting dandelions grow is one of the easiest ways to help!

The Great Yellow Bumblebee has declined by 80%, making it one of the UK’s rarest bumblebees. It is now only found on the last remaining wildflower meadow in Scotland.

Dandelion seeds are enjoyed by birds such as Goldfinch.

We love creating new wildflower areas in the garden.

Help feed birds over winter and provide fresh water for them to bathe in and drink.

Thanks to our great team of volunteers, for shifting 4 tons of horse manure this week.

On Monday we held our last 2023 Wellies in the Woods session at Bulwell forest garden 🍂

The children had so much fun with their new friends and received sweets, sticker books and Christmas activity sheets donated by National Literacy Trust Notts.

Wildflowers have many associated insects throughout their lifecycle not just the flowers providing nectar for bees but as a larder and shelter for a whole host of other little beauties. Here a young ladybird larva inspects the seed capsule of a Red Campion for aphids.

We're losing wildlife. Frogs, butterflies, bumblebees, hedgehogs, moths, bats, insects, birds are all declining. But if more of us take positive actions for biodiversity in our gardens, communities, landscapes and towns, we can help nature bounce back. Who's in?
