Instead of increasing access & resources to mental healthcare, Alabama lawmakers pass bill that carries hard prison time in response to Carlee Russell kidnapping hoax. Ms. Russell was suffering from emotional issues when she lied about being kidnapped.

Normalize talking #mentalhealth with no shame. I take an SSRI for anxiety/depression, had panic attacks & a stress related heart attack, self medicated w alcohol for years while swearing off psych meds bc I didn’t want the stigma. I am better today. 💪🏻 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Allegations in this case are disturbing & not the first I've heard of incarcerated people targeted with violent retaliation for speaking out. Jeff Hall's family did not deserve this. No family deserves this.

If they are safe to work in our communities they are safe for parole. Denying parole to 1692 of 1700 people already working in our communities makes the dysfunction & corruption of the Alabama Parole system crystal clear. This must change.

Got a client headed off to college with his laptop, his Pell grant and his big smile. He once had a life sentence & a parole denial. Not anymore, Alabama.

No public safety argument for AG's office to oppose a pardon in Alabama. A pardon is a restoration of rights only available to someone after all debts are paid, sentence served, etc. Plus parole board chair grilling ppl is obscene. Good reporting here.

Over 1700 parole eligible people are incarcerated in Alabama's 'work center' prisons that lease out workers to government agencies, then pay workers $2 a day for work that is often dangerous. Only 8 out of 1700 of them were released on parole between Oct-Feb.

Wasn't too worried, but getting a message from doctor after surgery last week- 'great news- all benign!' is a wonderful blast of relief covered in glittery fairy dust sprinkled with amazingness that I needed. Thank you God. 🙏
