When working with my mentees, I focus on one thing: learn what you can and can’t change and how to figure which is which real quick. It’s pointless to focus on not getting the raise you deserved when you aren’t thinking about how to move to whatever the next level is.

As you move through your career, you are going to get bad feedback. Your job is to understand if the feedback comes from a good place and a way to apply it. Don't simply take feedback – good or bad (even from your manager). Understand why it's important and how it can help first.

You better output from your team? Treat them like people who know you want them to succeed. It takes, words and actions, but the results will be better and more sustainable than brow-beating them, micromanaging them, or creating a culture of fear. Ask me how I know…

One things that schools need to reinforce is that most things aren’t zero sum. AI is coming and eventually it will replace many tasks currently performed by people. This doesn’t have to mean that people will no longer have work to do.

- Assume the other person wants what's good for the org
- Garbage in/Garbage out (You'll get back whatever you put in. Don't be a jerk)
- Patience (It's your emergency, not theirs)
