When working with my mentees, I focus on one thing: learn what you can and can’t change and how to figure which is which real quick. It’s pointless to focus on not getting the raise you deserved when you aren’t thinking about how to move to whatever the next level is.

As you move through your career, you are going to get bad feedback. Your job is to understand if the feedback comes from a good place and a way to apply it. Don't simply take feedback – good or bad (even from your manager). Understand why it's important and how it can help first.

You better output from your team? Treat them like people who know you want them to succeed. It takes, words and actions, but the results will be better and more sustainable than brow-beating them, micromanaging them, or creating a culture of fear. Ask me how I know…

One things that schools need to reinforce is that most things aren’t zero sum. AI is coming and eventually it will replace many tasks currently performed by people. This doesn’t have to mean that people will no longer have work to do.

I’m with David on this one. I’ve had to adjust my approach a bit, but I’ve been more productive because of AI assistants in my editor and IDE.

We lived long enough to hit the point where diversity, equity, and inclusion are bad words or ideals. Congratulations, y'all. We did it.

What’s worse? Replying to a slack message of “Hello” with “Hello” or “nohello.com”? The former may seem redundant or a waste of time, but the latter is passive aggressive at best and comes off rude.

A big chunk of my job, as a pretty senior engineer, is asking, “what if you removed the people from the hot path?”

I didn’t think Dune 2 was a great movie when it came to its story. Its visuals and sounds make it worth the almost three hour sit time, though. The story paints an awful picture, but people seem to enjoy it.

Looking for a career in tech that is unique, but still in high demand? Become an expert in something low level like hard drives or NICs. Not just using them, but fundamentally understanding them and their applications at scale.

SuperWhisper (superwhisper.com) is my new go to tool when it comes to talking to my computer and having it converted to readable text.

I’m 100% sold on the idea of using generative AI to do mundane/tedious tasks like summarizing meetings notes, creating task lists, expanding outlines, and suggesting names for variables/types.

Persuasion tips for devs:
- Be concise and clear
- No one wants to hear they are wrong
- Assume the other person wants what's good for the org
- Garbage in/Garbage out (You'll get back whatever you put in. Don't be a jerk)
- Patience (It's your emergency, not theirs)

You should spend all the time wasted on worrying how others think with trying to become version of yourself that makes you happy.

After an afternoon with the Vision Pro, I’m sold. This thing has crazy potential. Will wear it in public.

Writing good APIs takes empathy. You may not know why they are calling you, but you can attempt to make it is easy to understand as possible.
