It was an honor and privilege to be part of his neuro-oncology team with Dr. PhiOanh "Leia" NghiemPhu, MD. To me, his character and fortitude in the face of his diagnosis and treatment left an indelible mark. He will be missed.

Even though I am in both adult and pediatric neuro-onc worlds right now, remembering my roots in peds heme/onc, definitely hits home, but my adult onc colleagues are happy too! :)

Super interesting and so fascinating to see how the field has evolved.

1. Revamped a clinical service line out of fellowship
2. Went back to grad school even tho I was a humanities major in college (almost done thankfully!)
3. Added to my clinical skillset by pursuing an adult neuro-onc fellowship as a pediatrician

What a ride it's been so far!

Kevin Lee, an MS4 The Ohio State University College of Medicine + newly matched into Neurology was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer in March of 2024.

Since his diagnosis, he’s had a brain biopsy, multiple LPs, and just finished his first round of chemotherapy.

Thank you to all my mentors for pushing me and believing in me when I did not believe in myself. I would not have envisioned where I am today without you guys. I endeavor to pay it forward for others.

Prediction: number of unfilled spots in peds/peds subspecialties keeps falling until:
1. Salary reflects the 6 (!!!) years of training to be a pediatric specialist, OR
2. Training shortens to reflect poor salary, OR
3. Nothing changes, and peds dies.
