Proud to speak on behalf of Scottish Greens in support of my friend Gillian Mackay MSP's Safe Access Zones bill, which passed Stage One with 123 votes to 1 💚

This bill will create harassment-free zones around abortion service providers

(and yes, I meant GB not UK re the 1967 Act!)

When my Safe Access Zones bill passes stage one... 😀

🟢 Yes: 123 🔴No: 1

This was a moment of unity for our Parliament.

I am proud to have the support of MSPs from all parties.

Thank you everyone who has helped to get my bill to this stage.

Patrick is absolutely right.

It didn't need to end like this, we had a pro-indy progressive majority under Humza but he alone decided to destroy that.

It's time to put people and planet first. ✊️🌍

At best, a - very poorly executed - gamble that failed. At worst, an FM who just assumed the Greens would fall in line regardless, likely fueled by a belief in the narrative they're only in parliament as a result of lovely SNP voters being nice & generous with list votes.

NEW

Scottish Greens offer an olive branch to the next Scottish first minister

Statement just issued from co-leader Patrick Harvie is notably conciliatory in tone

Opens the door to Scottish Greens supporting the next FM and working with SNP… if their policy goals are delivered

“In ending the Bute House agreement, I clearly underestimated the level of hurt & upset that caused Green colleagues”

Last week Humza’s position as FM wasn’t up for debate.

A totally avoidable act of political self-destruction.

Don’t underestimate the Scottish Greens 🤷🏻‍♂️💚

A wee thread from me on the last few days:

Firstly I wanted to address my Drive Time appearance.
I am upset after the last few days, overly tired and care deeply about everything we are doing and my colleagues. That came across last night and I'm not sorry for that.

It’s been a tumultuous week in Scottish politics but I’m immensely proud of the work my colleagues in this party do, in Holyrood, in council chambers, and as volunteers in branches the length of the country. We’ll keep working for people and planet - join us and get stuck in?!

A dark day for anyone who wants a fairer, greener Scotland. The SNP leadership capitulated to the most conservative & bigoted forces in Scotland

The Scottish Greens are the only party standing up for people and planet. Join us in that fight

Humza Yousaf has chosen to rely on social conservatives and the right wing of his party to run a minority government.

The Scottish Greens believe Scotland deserves a progressive Government that puts people and planet first.🌍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Humza Yousaf could have kept a progressive government which took tackling poverty & the climate crisis seriously.

Instead he chose to side with Fergus Ewing & Kate Forbes. Now only the Greens offer truly radical change.

Poor political judgement from a leader out of his depths.

Ooft. Green co-convenor Lorna Slater says this is an 'act of political cowardice by the SNP, who are selling out future generations to appease the most reactionary forces in the country.'
