If interesting and illuminating coverage is the goal, maybe try sending someone less inclined to lecture his subjects (and the audience) on the way of the world, and more inclined towards curiosity/inquiry/understanding. You have the wrong person on the job.

Well worth everyone's time in order to understand how chatbots are not the tutors of the present (or future).

whatever you think of the 'fascism' debate, i'd love to see you come up with an alternate word for this level of smug, brazen, intellect-defying, surreal public dishonesty.

UNC administration believes so much in academic freedom, they're videotaping professors without their knowledge or permission to make sure the freedoms are being exercised. Either that or UNC is spying on the classroom without notice. theassemblync.com/education/high…

Free speech! Uhh...until the rhetoric becomes 'maximalist,' a standard that the author apparently has a unique radar for detecting, and after that, the cops have not choice but to go crack some heads.

A 🧵on why it's inaccurate and deceptive to call DEI statements political litmus tests:

1) No one is forced to apply to a specific university job; no one is forced to accept it. Nothing about them is “compelled.”

The university presidents that understand their job is to lead, rather than manage are showing well these days. The others, not so much.

In which Jake Tapper complains that despite having full editorial control over his own show he can't cover what's going on in Gaza because students are protesting. Why not just admit it's the story he wants to cover? cnn.com/videos/us/2024…

📣📣This is a masterclass in handling biased media.

Watch Frederick Lawrence school Jake Tapper on the

This clearly isn’t what Jake expected from a former Brandeis president.

Another banger from Isaac Chotiner. Abrams seems willing to invent both his preferred past and present to make himself look correct. My favorite part was the desert dry delivery of this particular question/comment. newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/e…

One general law governs higher ed commentary:
the less one interacts with current university students, the more vocally one claims to understand them, and the quicker one is to condemn them.

Does he mean these UNC students who protested and ripped down a statue glorifying the Confederacy on their campus?nytimes.com/2018/08/21/us/…

This is VERY depressing. Technology (as such) isn’t the issue either. It’s the top down, technocratic, & managerial logics that govern many school systems. Without deeper structural & pedagogical changes, technology will only ever make the status quo “more efficient.”

Thank you John for the close read and the kind words about both THE AUDACITY and RIOTS I HAVE KNOWN. This is a vitamin D shot straight to the brain.
