A lot of folks ask me why we chose StarCoder as Cody's primary code completions LLM. The main reason was quality—in our assessment, the StarCoder family of models provided the best real-world trade-off of speed + quality, including the ability to incorporate Cody's unique context…

We’ve had well-evaluated defaults + freedom of model choice baked into our philosophy from day one. If that appeals to you, give cody.dev a try!

Did you know Cody has a special 'ignore this context' feature? Create a file called `.codyignore` and Cody will exclude those files from context fetching. This is useful for security (sensitive files) or code quality (avoid replicating antipatterns in bad code).

Soon pressing Alt+Enter or Opt+Enter in Cody will submit a chat message without enhanced context (only explicit @-mentions). This is faster and is useful for general coding questions or tasks that only need specific context.

There's a slick new interactive tutorial that goes over the core Cody features, now available in the nightly build. Use it as a refresher if you're an existing Cody user or as your introduction if you're trying Cody out for the first time!

- the best RAG context fetching for code
- is it still worth learning to code
- open source and AI
- agents
- future plans for Cody

give this a listen:

Great to see folks in the wild using s0.dev for code generation and comparing with-context performance of different LLMs!

Gonna be in NYC next week—is there an equivalent of the SF AI events spreadsheet for NYC or is AI not really a thing in New York?

Good week behind of TypeScript compiler hacking adding symbol context to Cody so that autocomplete generates object literals that match the types in your codebase instead of data from the LLM training set
