In a 2019 post I related new evidence that in 1867, average strength of Canadian I.P.A. was 8.4% abv. One brewery tested was run by a branch of the Labatt family in Prescott, Ontario. Some beers tested reached 9% abv. See here, and my further conclusions: beeretseq.com/india-pale-ale…
