Alberta would like both more and less federal funding to flow to Alberta. This position has the advantage of allowing us to remain mad about any potential decision the federal government might make regardless of whether these decisions are a direct consequence of our tantrums.

A few words on the UCP government’s “Provincial Priorities Act,” which, at first glance, I read as the “Provincial Patriots Act.” Where did that slip come from, do ya' think? 1/ Edmonton Journal CBC Edmonton

'If we exclude the fed funding & the amounts for provincial highways & bridges, the total provincial capital funding for munis in 2024 will be $1.73B. This is actually $1B less than what the provincial govt will take from municipalities through education property taxes this year'

Rolling blackouts in Edmonton right now. In April. With electricity demand 20% below January peak. Nice electricity grid you've got there, shame if something happened to it.

At a community open house for a proposed city-wide zoning change (very minor) in Calgary and through tears one individual stated:

'If you like all that diversity you can move somewhere else we don't want that here.'

Really saying the quiet part out loud.

Given the hate-filled misinformation & highly charged political rhetoric in the world right now, today is more important than ever. The trans community is celebrated, seen, strengthened & supported today. Being an ally matters.

Roxboro is one of only six communities in that is 100% single family homes, its population is 18% below its peak. It is 1.5km from an LRT station, 1.4km from a rec centre, 850m from a school, and down the road from one of the most amenity rich streets in the city. cc

I just have to note that this column pushes for blanket zoning to be refused even though R1 is itself blanket zoning, and argues we should cut red tape to build more housing -- just not the zoning red tape.

All communities built post 2013 are already base RG! Thousands of people.

So you’re going to get all those folks to vote on whether the rest of the city should be rezoned?

I get that this is a political tactic to delay a decision, but it’s not even a good one.

Alberta: We hate red tape and protect property rights.
TBA: How about a really extensive new regime of red tape and land use rules for wind and solar?
Alberta: BRING IT ON!
Alberta: We hate taxes. Alberta advantage, and what not.
TBA: What about a tax on EVs?
Alberta: LOVE IT!

If media reports of a ban on wind turbines within 35km of protected areas are accurate - note that this would mean 76% of southern Alberta would be off limits to wind

Just so we’re clear: Alberta is a place where a landowner can’t legally say NO to O&G development, but also can’t say YES to renewables. Strong and free, right? What a sad joke.

Demand Tariffs - the price loads pay to use the transmission and distribution lines are based on a combination of the charging capacity or rate in MW and the amount of energy the consume. They are one of the legacy barriers that should be changed. 1/n
