The UN is extremely cautious about declaring famine. Places where lots of people are dying of hunger are routinely characterized as “on the brink” of famine for ages. So when they say w/out hesitation that “there is famine, full-blown famine” in Gaza, it means it’s very, very bad

Wrote this for London Review of Books on Gaza and the US campus protests, the process of sabotaging accountability, and the ongoing crisis of political liberalism.

Sounds like a well-disciplined movement that takes strategy seriously and doesn’t just let any random undergrad mouth off to a Murdoch-employed Reagan speechwriter who will not under any circumstances describe the protests fairly

One of the clarifying things about this moment is that post-2017 liberal antifascism was never based on a genuine commitment to antifascist politics but rather on anxieties around a collapsing liberal hegemony that needed to be violently reinforced.

Just listened to episode 9 of the Thawra podcast, which covers the era of the Palestinian political movements in the 1950s.

It has continuity with the previous episodes, but it’s also a great stand-alone discussion on Palestinian history. Listen here: thedigradio.com/podcast/thawra…

Hilarious Peter Baker thinks students are stupid enough to believe that either he or Peggy Noonan are 'journalists who are there to listen'!!! This palace courtier genocide apologist is so smugly high on his own rhetorical supply that he can't comprehend we all know he's a clown.

Note the condescension also. Baker reports on disciplined orgs that attempt to stay on message (eg the White House) all the time. He understands how that works. But he expects undergrads to be incapable of such discipline and to be putty in the hands of journalists.

Finished the latest episode (no. 8) of the Thawra podcast. Amazing as always, especially the description of Kuwait as a revolutionary hub in the 1950s: thedigradio.com/podcast/thawra…

Tooze is by far the best liberal. He's actually intellectually honest. Check out his very useful podcast episode from today podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/one…

There are no universities left in Gaza since they were all bombed by genocidaires, killing faculty, students, staff. But the presidents still alive have issued this in support of students & faculty in solidarity encampments.
