Kier Starmer is floundering already. In 2022, he said he would NOT ALLOW energy companies to raise bills, and that he would fund this by levying a 'windfall tax' on the profits of energy companies. Now he wants pensioners to pay instead. Centrica can keep their £753m profits.

Does Rachel Reeves not know that pensioners detest the notion of 'means testing' anything ? For the elderly, it transports them back decades .. to a time when a civil servant could dictate how many chairs you needed .. even how many blankets were needed in your household. Doh!

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If there is one group of people who remember 'means testing', it's the pensioners. They remember the stigma attached to it. Telling that self same group (10m of them) that they will lose the Winter Fuel Payment unless they submit to 'means testing' is both cruel and callous.

Who said "There will be no return to austerity" ?Scrapping Winter Fuel Payments from the pensioners - just before winter, is in my book pretty austere (not to mention cruel). "The October budget will be tough". Looks like austerity, sounds like austerity .. Austerity is back !

In 2017, Teresa May proposed scrapping Winter Fuel Payments for pensioners. Labour objected on the grounds that 4000 pensioners would die as a result of this. Now Labour think it's OK for 4000 pensioners to die needlessly .. casually passing it off as a "tough decision".

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Punishing poor pensioners was not a "TOUGH DECISION" .. they are an easy target. A tough decision would have been to tackle Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax, National Insurance. This would have been far more contentious, so they decided to bash the pensioners yet again.

Labour have admitted they did not bother to carry out an assessment of the impact scrapping Winter Fuel Payments. However, in 2017, when Teresa May proposed the same thing, they did. The report said that it would lead to 4000 excess deaths (pensioners).

in 2017, Labour were opposed to scrapping Winter Fuel Payments (as proposed by Tory Govt). They commissioned a report. Outcome was that nearly 4000 pensioners could die. Not helpful to today's Labour party (who now propose scrap WFP). Kier Starmer says the report was wrong. ?

1st Oct 2024 energy Price Cap will rise to £1717 (now £1568) = 10% increase. Price Cap was first introduced in Jan 2019 .. then it was £1137. October's Price Cap is a 51% increase on 2019. Most MPs (including Kier Starmer & Rachel Reeves) claim expenses for their energy bills.

Neither the PM, or his Chancellor have given a clear explanation as to why they found the money to 'settle' disputes with train drivers and doctors, and pay all Public Service Workers an above inflation rise, whilst at the same time, strip pensioners of their WF payments. Why?

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Boris claimed he had 'sought advice' over what he should have declared to parliament. Now Kier uses the same 'play'. They both knew that when you claim to be in office "to serve", being gifted £4K Taylor Swift tkts, Premiership match tkts, wife's wardrobe, it does not look good.

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Kier Starmer knows that scrapping Winter Fuel Payments was wrong. That is why he has pushed the vote back at Conference. His own MPs did not like the policy. He is losing control as we speak. He cannot afford to be this weak. U-turn now.

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Labour’s Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson has come clean and admitted she accepted tickets for Taylor Swift show "because it was hard to turn down". At the same time, her government was planning further raids on the hard earned cash, of hard working pensioners. DISGRACE !

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Labour has said that it has done "more in 11 weeks" than the Tories had in years. What they didn't say was that the pensioners had had to pay for it all, while they were taking freebies worth £££s. DISGRACE !!

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

"We will not return to austerity" .. Let me tell you, as a pensioner who has just lost a £300 Winter Fuel Payment (just as winter is about to bite), and will have to pay more income tax on my pension (due to frozen personal allowances), not only will we return to it .. IT'S HERE.

Phil Morris (@prmtwitcomp) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If Labour are so confident that their decision to scrap Winter Fuel Payments is right and proper, why are they scared to debate it at conference. The debate has been kicked to the graveyard shift (last day), when it was scheduled to be on the opening day. Running scared !
