At my talk at #ICFP2023 I claimed that with observable sharing one can write a parser combinator library where left-recursion works (in the presence of sharing), and someone asked if I had, and I had to admit I hadn’t, so the next day I did: joachim-breitner.de/blog/807-Left_… #haskell

Squashing your Github PR (if that’s what the project you want to contribute expects) is surprisingly annoying. So I created squasher.nomeata.de to do it for you.

I once created a #Motoko #internetcomputer canister that holds ICP tokens and gives it to whoever can guess a secret (and codes up a bunch of technicalities). Two years later, it was indeed solved: forum.dfinity.org/t/capture-the-… (I won’t reveal how, in case others want to try as well.)

The GHC Steering Committee has decided on the language extensions for the next language edition, GHC2024: github.com/ghc-proposals/…

I have resigned from my post as GHC Steering Committee secretary, and wrote a little retrospective at joachim-breitner.de/blog/811-GHC_S… (If you were following me just for the notifications about accepted proposals, well, 🤷)

I've implemented functional induction theorems in Lean, shipping with the upcoming version 4.8.0, and wrote a tutorial-style blog post about it: lean-lang.org/blog/2024-5-17… (h't to David Christiansen for the tooling behind the hover features.) #lean #leanlang

Our latest work AlphaProof, building on AlphaZero, LLMs and the Lean theorem prover, combined with AlphaGeometry 2 managed to solve 4 IMO problems and achieve silver-medalist level! 🚀 More at dpmd.ai/imo-silver

It's so fucking awesome that Lean went from being an obscure dependently typed theorem prover that only PL theory nerds and mathcels revered to being actually useful and... mainstream? It's a really good PL. Don't take it from me, here's Graydon Hoare praising it too.

At first I thought he was wearing a theorem prover t- shirt. There were plenty of theorem prover people at the party, with a heavy focus on Lean.

In this wonderful episode of the The Haskell Interlude Lindsey Kuper Lindsey Kuper (@[email protected]) gives an interesting account of her career though industry and academia, and from the world of strict functional languages to lazy functional programming in Haskell (which involves Ryan Newton!).
