What’s happening at Columbia will go down as a pivotal moment in U.S. student protest history.

Yet Columbia, home to the Pulitzers and the Knight First Amendment, isn’t letting journalists, faculty, researchers in.

Friends, please amplify and pay attention to the police raid and violence happening right now at CCNY alongside Columbia. Shame on Félix V. Matos Rodríguez for sanctioning the NYPD to hurt our @cuny students.

Don’t talk to me about red state governments and their impacts on universities while the donors at elite universities in the northeast are proving to be more conservative in the most actionable ways.

Defund the fucking police

I don’t think Columbia University will ever recover from this. This will be their legacy — a full out war on their students for peacefully protesting a U.S.-backed ethnic cleansing campaign that has systematically murdered nearly 40,000 people.

TO BE CLEAR, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY HAS CALLED THE COPS ONTO ITS OWN STUDENTS FOR THE SECOND TIME IN TWO WEEKS, ON THE 56TH ANNIVERSARY OF WHEN THEY LAST CALLED THE POLICE ONTO CAMPUS TO ARREST OVER 700 PROTESTING THE VIETNAM WAR & HARLEM GENTRIFICATION ON APRIL 30TH, 1968

Higher ed will never be the same. Y’all lost whatever sense of trust students had by upholding state violence… your strategic planning won’t get you out of this one.

One of the hardest lessons of adulthood has been realizing that there are some things in this world that you may never get to have for yourself.

-If ur a lawyer, represent who you can
-Join up, bb! (The Emory invitation is one of the most beautiful things I've seen)

There is just no question that from the time police showed up, the protest at VCU only got bigger. At least three or four hundred by 10pm.

One student told me she felt more inclined to support the protesters cause after seeing her classmates tear-gassed by their campus police.

The metaphor I use is faculty need to be a barrier reef. Let the waves hit YOU as they come off the open sea. Buffer the force before it hits your students ashore. A tsunami might wash all of you away—but let it hit YOU first, lest you let even a single soul find higher ground.

What this always tells me is that the ppl saying this cannot conceive that other ppl would have this kind of conviction because they don’t have it themselves.
