I had a museum for the things I brought home as a child: a dusty old chest of drawers in the barn next to the house. Now I’ve grown up, so has my cabinet of curiosities. This is where I keep many of my treasures: a “handsome, ink-stained, oak printer’s chest” #mudlarking

The blunthead slug snake isn't like other snakes. This nocturnal reptile, which primarily feeds on slugs and snails, eats using a technique called mandibular sawing. To slice off the indigestible parts of prey, this species slides its jaws back and forth like a saw!

I kind of love this, but I'm also compelled to point out that fossil fuels are mostly made of the remains of ancient photosynthetic life. Petroleum is primarily composed of plankton, algae, & other aquatic life. So microplastics are reincarnated plankton. Plastic is necromancy

Big news! A team of former @natgeo editors and contributors (Rachael Bale Oliver Payne Rene Ebersole) has started a new investigative wildlife journalism nonprofit called WIRE. Incredible that they are continuing this important work: wireonline.org

Still obsessed with the cicada we saw emerging last night. The fairy-colored wings of the freshly hatched exoskeleton were so beautiful 🥹
