The 1956 Olympics were marred by boycotts and political tensions. Two days before the end, 17-year-old Melbourne apprentice carpenter John Wing wrote to the IOC to suggest the athletes mingle at the closing ceremony as a sign of unity. It's been that way ever since. This is him.

You want your team to be innovative and I have to admit, sitting 2nd after Round 19 and then missing finals would be a pretty innovative move by Carlton.

On this day in 1900, Frederick Lane won Australia's first ever Olympic swimming gold medals. He won the 200m freestyle and the 200m obstacle race in the Seine, which involved climbing over a pole, over some boats and swimming under more boats. I wish they would bring it back.

From the Victorian government's school parent survey. "Please select the year level of your child with the most recent birthday and think of this child when answering". In other words, ignore your other kids. Completely arbitrary. What a pointless survey Ben Carroll

Can anyone explain to me why a Myki card expires? I cannot think of a single logical reason why you shouldn't be able to just keep the same card indefinitely.

Nine years ago next month, The Chase Australia premiered and none of us had any idea how long it would last. This week, Matt Parkinson and I each filmed our 300th episodes respectively. I feel very lucky to be able to play games for a job #thechaseaus Larry Emdur

It just occurred to me that South Australia is only Australia’s third southernmost state and in fact is also our third northernmost state, how have I never considered this before, what is this madness

About a decade ago I saw James Earl Jones and Angela Lansbury on stage in Melbourne, starring in Driving Miss Daisy. Two absolute legends, both now gone. A wonderful memory.
