So is light mode actually a thing people want/use?

Felt like everyone was moving to dark mode for a while there, but requests for light mode seem to be picking up over time

So cool. Something very validating about playing even a small role in getting someone from 0 to 1 (or in this case $7.5M)

Sometimes I’ll stare at code I previously wrote and recall not only why I wrote it that way but also where I was, what was going on around me at the time etc

Real weird, like slipping into a previous version of yourself

Yeah as much as I like the idea of building things 'right' from the get go, speed is increasingly important

Gone are the days of being able to agonize over the corner radius of a button because while you’re busy doing that, someone else just shipped a new feature

Dunno if it’s just me but tech in 2024 has better vibes than tech in 2016

Fewer folks pushing platitudes and bullshit, more folks just being real and shipping

When you realize everything is software governed by algorithms, you get a better understanding of why things are increasingly the way they are

This. As soon as Carrd got traction I set aside almost everything else and focused on it 100%

Side project making a couple thousand/year -> full time gig making millions/year

Think I had an easier time getting away with this because I’ve been on Twitter/X since like 2009 and it (and really the internet in general) was very much a different place back then

Complicating is deceptively easy, simplifying is deceptively hard

Doesn’t take any effort to needlessly complicate things (which is why it tends to be our default)

But keeping things simple? Constant mental workout you have to keep up with or else it very quickly atrophies

Man every day is like, how the hell did you do that in Carrd

Followed by wow we should actually make that a feature

Funny when someone gets excited about hitting $1k MRR then feels bad it’s 'only' $1k because some guy just posted they hit $10k

Like, chill out. You’ll get there too if you’re meant to, but in the meantime run your own race and celebrate that win (cause it absolutely is one)

Crazy prediction but imo standalone devices will make a comeback once the phone epidemic runs its course and we look back on it the way we do smoking in the 1960s

The time you spent defending your dev stack on reddit could have been spent building something cool with it

Stripe love is well deserved. A lot of people don’t remember how shitty payment processing was pre-Stripe and how that added friction to monetization probably killed some interesting product ideas (esp. by newer/less experienced makers)

Is it weird that I look at some of my abandoned projects and feel remorse in the same way you would for not staying in touch with an old close friend?
