This is how I explain developing research.

As much as it’s a science, there’s very much a creative art to it.

This is especially true if you’re an interdisciplinary scholar like me.

Creativity is beautiful for how many ideas and references are transformed over time to make what we find as a new discovery.

No idea is original in essence. True.

However, each human is unique and it’s our ability to apply that to an idea that makes it appear original to us.

A wise philosopher once said

It never ceases to amaze me that those who once protested for change and reform become the leaders and enforcers of the culture and policies they once hated. It reminds me that socialization and the desire for power and access can, over time, make you the thing you once hated.

This why being in right relationship and community with political organizations outside the academy is so critical to advancing transformative institutional change.

Academics won’t save us. Everyday people will.

And if we always think ourselves the former and never not the latter, we’ll be buried under the rumble of crumbling institutions we’ve propped up and legitimize for our personal benefit.

Politically, one cannot believe themselves to be exceptional and at the same time subaltern.

The more privileged you are, the more risks you should be taking in the name of freedom, justice & liberation for all.

University policies are not laws. Violations of said policies is NOT a justification for mobilizing police and wielding state power to force campus stakeholders into compliance.
