This week to celebrate Transgender Remembrance Week MFV NV is going to be doing a series of posts of trans Latina women who have made a positive impact in our community. Today we are starting with Lorena Borjas, a Mexican-American transgender, and immigrant rights activist!

Going on Now the UC is at the East Las Vegas Library with community members as we watch Nick featured film and listening to Undocumented Members in our community talk about there experience and how they let go of the term dreamer

Our panelist are breaking down how the dreamer narrative has impacted them personally! Many explaining how it pushes the good vs bad immigrant narrative.

Yamilet, a mom who doesn’t identify as a dreamer, shares how she constantly worries about being separated from her kids and says “we’re not dreaming, this is a nightmare”

“Dreamers is a stereotype. Dreamers are seen as young students while undocumented are portrayed as taking jobs and terrorists” shares Mtisunge while describing her and her communities experience

If you have the ability to help human kind, you have the duty to do so - says Mtisunge Lucy Ngwira-Brooks who DACA

Mtisunge shares how they are blocked from accessing basic needs and funding for the ventures due to their immigration status therefore not being allowed to truly dream

“The term is also undocumented is wrong, we all have birth certificates and identifications from our home countries” immigrants don’t all fit into one category and the current narrative puts labels on who does and doesn’t deserve citizenship.

“We might lose DACA, it’s been on life support. We have to fight because the opponents are always going to be there and the racism is bigger than ever” shares Lalo Montoya
