It has been one of the great honors and joys of my life to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh the past three years. I depart with wonderful memories and a grateful heart.

In my farewell meeting with AK Abdul Momen we discussed the strong long-standing 🇺🇸 🤝🇧🇩 partnership, the importance of human rights and the rule of law, and enhancing cooperation on development, economic growth and security.

My first official public event as U.S. Ambassador in December 2018 and final event last week were in support of 🇺🇸🇧🇩 joint efforts to combat human trafficking, one of my top priorities. I’m proud of the partnership and progress of our two nations fighting this global crime.

Rewarding final meeting with Min. of Agriculture, Dr. Abdur Razzaque, a proud #Purdue grad! We discussed growing expansion of 🇺🇸🇧🇩 agricultural trade which has almost doubled the past 5 years. Our partnership is ensuring sustainable livelihoods for farmers in both our nations.

On #MLKDay , we reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy & call to action to unite against injustice. Last week at USAID’s countering human trafficking workshop for tribunal judges, I recalled his inspiring words: “Every human being is an heir to a legacy of dignity and worth.”

Proud to announce 🇺🇸 donated an additional 9.6 million Pfizer vaccines for the nationwide vaccination campaign. With over 28 million vaccine doses given to date and millions more on the way, we’ll continue to stand with Bangladesh in the fight against #COVID19 .

In my final meeting with Int'l Affairs Adviser Gowher Rizvi, distinguished historian, gentleman & friend, we spoke of the importance of our nations’ ideals & strengthening our historic 🇺🇸 🇧🇩 partnership built on innumerable people to people ties & unbreakable bonds of affection.

Honorable Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been an invaluable partner, counselor and friend. She is a role model and inspiration for women leaders in government. Greatly enjoyed our farewell discussion on enhancing engagement between 🇧🇩 Parliament & 🇺🇸 Congress.

I had an exciting tour of the 🇯🇵 JS Uraga & JS Hirado with colleagues from🇬🇧,🇯🇵,🇮🇳,🇦🇺 & 🇧🇩. This follows recent visits of the 🇬🇧 HMS Kent & the 🇺🇸 USS Tulsa to 🇧🇩. Side by side, strengthening relationships & forging strong partnerships to keep the Indo-Pacific region free & open!

Yesterday, I spent some time with poultry farmers in Chattogram & heard how, with training from USAID Bangladesh & FAO Bangladesh they improved their farming practices & increased productivity by reducing risk of disease spread. Since 2006, we’ve supported >26K 🇧🇩 poultry farmers.🇺🇸🤝🇧🇩

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called the climate crisis exactly what it is: A planetary emergency. In 2022, 🇺🇸 & 🇧🇩 will continue to combat climate change together.
