Darren Naish Having done a S. hepingensis, the measurements and figured caudal material suggest a reasonably short tail. A mid chevron is present, indicating that at least the mid-tail was quite thin. Not so sure about the anterior ones, but I made them longer akin to related taxa.
Honored that my team's recent research on facial expression muscles in African wild dogs was featured in Nature News! We found African wild dogs have the same well-developed 'puppy dog eye' expression muscles found in domestic dogs.

#AnimalFigureOfTheDay is allosauroid # 34, another metriacanthosaurid... this is the 2021 #PNSO Sinraptor, called Xinchuan. A really great model (apart from the lack of lips!), though I do wonder if the tail is too short and lightweight. #dinosaurs #theropods
There are few things as exciting in our little corner of science as a new specimen of Archaeopteryx...with a skull...in a major, easily accessible museum! Congratulations to Field Museum & Jingmai O'Connor! These lovely photos are from this great article: bit.ly/44w9Z64
Yikes, gotta prepare for several #AncientSeaReptiles talks in May and June - including Lyme Regis Fossil Festival - as well as The Unnatural History Museum event
I had a chance to illustrate a pretty darn cool thing! So excited to see it out. Huge thanks to the amazing crew of the Field Museum giving me this amazing opportunity.

New paper! You can ID Anolis ecomorphs from just an arm! We (Kevin de Queiroz et al) compared the arm morphology of a fossil anole in amber to those of extant Anolis species. We can pretty confidently say the fossil belongs to a Trunk ecomorph lineage.

Thanks to those who've bought #AncientSeaReptiles (Natural History Museum in UK; Smithsonian Books in US). These are exciting times in marine reptile research, with discoveries coming in fast. Questions on phylogeny, behaviour & function are under study. Buy it here: nhmshop.co.uk/ancient-sea-re…
