Apparently, the new The BMJ meta analysis on psilocybin for depression contains errors that inflated effect sizes by 500%.

If the Times ran an article by an anti-vaxxer making arguments about risk that were as baseless as the ones here, they’d (rightly) get lambasted for it.

Hate to be *this* guy, but the p-values associated with these outcomes are p = .044, p = .011, p = .008, p = .076, p = .067, p = .094, p = .058, p = .039, p = .064, p = .05, p = .067, p = .014.

These results are interesting, but need replicating.

How it started // how it’s going. AI safety is a massively important question and it doesn’t help to have silly nonsense like this on social media, making people take it less seriously!

New post!

I take you through what it's like to explore data through data visualization, focusing on causes of death.

How do you decide which chart is best? What do different visualizations tell you about the data? And why does dataviz matter at all?

Dan Dennett was a great philosopher, skilled with words, images, thought experiments & intuition pumps. But unlike many clever philosophers (to borrow from PB Medawar) he had something important to be clever ABOUT, namely science. Much more yet, he was a dear friend. So very sad.

A great use for AI: playing incredibly boring videogames like Red Dead Redemption 2, which no human should ever have to endure.
