New JCE ASAP article! We surveyed industry chemists from 80 companies about the undergraduate instrumentation experience / skill development that best prepared them for chemical industry.

Happy first pub day to David Hamilton and Alyssa Castillo!

Ciao! I made a summary doc of all the problems from last year (because I was trying to make sure there wasn’t going to be any repeats in my front-log); please enjoy! drive.google.com/file/d/1awA8PV…

My version of the classic 'what mechanism, SN1, SN2, E1 or E2, is operating?' table found in many a textbook or lecture course. The classic cliché 'if I had more time this would have been shorter (better)' is true of this
summary, but hopefully useful

I drew some instruments for a presentation and then decided you should ALL have these. You can have these as nice clean TIFF files (also pasted into a PPT). Please enjoy and use for whatever! drive.google.com/drive/folders/…

Just as a heads up, if Twitter starts charging a subscription fee I will be out immediately. If you HUNGER for mechanism problems, they’ll still be posted at my blog (chemissst.weebly.com/mechanism-mond…) and on linkedin (linkedin.com/in/sasha-sunds…).

This wasn't meant to be a MakingMolecules handout but was written as revision notes for my current 200-level students. Hopefully it is useful for others (& I can use Twitter as proofreaders). Check out actual MakingMolecules summaries at makingmolecules.com/handouts

Very cool little treat from one of my students' 19F NMRs from a reaction with Ruppert Prakash reagent (TMSCF3) in deuterated solvent.

Left = CHCF3 split into a 1:1 doublet
Right = CDCF3 split into a 1:1:1 triplet

🧲🔥❗️Plane of symmetry makes cis isomer optically inactive (meso form, achiral). Trans isomer has C2 axis of symmetry which doesn’t cancel its optical activity. chat

In love with this app from JEOL USA 💙

All parameters of active nuclei in your pocket 🤩

They are already in your brain but just for sure! 🧪
