Potatoes are a vegetable, and reclassifying it as a grain would harm both Maine farmers and nutrition goals nationwide. I strongly opposed this change, and I’m glad that our bipartisan push successfully blocked it from being implemented.

Globalization has undermined American self-reliance. Since 1992, the national trade deficit has increased by 2,695%. In Maine we have foreign-owned utilities and import more food every year while Maine farmland shrinks.

Time to rethink this raw deal.
