Today the Church of England celebrates the witness of the English Saints and Martyrs of the Reformation Era

Today is the Feast of the English Martyrs. The date stems from the execution of 3 Carthusian monks at Tyburn in London on this day in 1535, the first of many martyrs through the Reformation. May their sacrifice be a continuing inspiration.

Hundreds of martyrs died for our faith in this country. Today we give thanks for all they did, and remind ourselves that faith often requires sacrifice. What is the Lord calling you to give? It might be your time, your talent or your treasure, take some time in prayer to reflect.

The Chapel of St George and the English martyrs commemorates the forty English and Welsh Catholic martyrs of the sixteenth and seventeenth century.

Includes the reliquary of St John Southworth, martyred in 1654 during the interregnum under Elizabethan anti-priest legislation.
