At my father in law's wake this evening after his cremation. They only hung three of his pictures, but he has dozens more. The funeral ceremony in Japan is so beautiful and solemn. It's been so moving to take part in.

Trapped a bull boar this morning. I didn't have time to slaughter him so I brought him to a farmer friend to process him properly. It was pissing down with rain and I had to drag him a ways through the mud to the truck. Fun times!

Finished up processing my deer. Marinated and sliced thin for jerky. The rest is in the freezer. It's exhausting to process a deer. Takes at least half a day to do everything properly and produce something edible. I teach my sons as I work tho, b/c they need too learn this.

Cut up that deer and I'm cooking up the backstrap for the wife to bring in to her family tonight. I'm hanging back home tonight to take care of Ivy and the chickens. Whiskey soda and venison are on the menu.

Had to dig out the water pipe into one of my fields because it still hasn't fully flooded after two days. Also laid some straw from last year's harvest down to prevent weeds from coming up. AND, I trapped a big female deer, so I've got a lot going on today!

Didn't want to mention it publicly but my father in law passed this morning, and we found this self portrait of his. Made me so happy to see, so I wanted to share it. I knew him for 26 years and we lived with him for 5 years when we came back to Japan in 2013. お父さんありがとう!
