☀️On solar energy deployment, China shifted gear since 2015, doubling the EU and tripling the USA in terms of installed capacity. This and more insights in our Bruegel Clean Tech Tracker: bruegel.org/dataset/europe…

Germany has a lot of solar. It still uses less space for solar than for golf courses, and about the same as for football fields or growing Christmas trees. Wind power uses even less space. Spatial constraints on renewables are overhyped, even in densely populated Germany.

It is profoundly ironic that clean energy tech is held back by red tape, interest groups, and inertia in democratic countries while it develops freely under the oppressive, meddling CCP. To the extent that China has been able to achieve world domination in a few years.

Must-read thread on the role of in global power sector. While countries like and largely avoid coal-to-gas switch by ramping up , the is the single biggest reason for lack of the global gas peak.

would have been on its way out of the global power sector -if not for the , the only country growing its gas demand & responsible for 25%(!) of global gas generation. That's 3x more than 's & must be addressed if wants to claim leadership.

An incredibly encouraging report on global trends: are winning the tech race. But RES growth still comes primarily from & countries. Making sure can benefit from this trend must become the world's 1st priority.

To be precise, 's negotiations with on have stalled - China was never proactive in bringing this project forward. It has a well diversified pipeline & supply portfolio & doesn't need PoS2 as its gas demand might peak by the time it actually goes online.

leads on the global additions, it also leads on deployment, including UHV transmission - unless OECD ➡️ Better Policies for Better Lives countries catch up with this trend they're really not in a place to complain about China's dominance in capacity ramp-up and supply chains.

🇮🇹 G7 Italy Climate & Energy Ministerial leaves us with a glass half-full on
➕Good language on glob targets + commitment
➖Lack of clear delivery signals & instruments, sticky “gas crisis” narrative put G7’s global leadership into❓
