Two flats in The Hyde, Basildon, have been left damaged after a fire broke out this afternoon.

We've now carried out a full fire investigation and believe the most likely cause was an electrical device.

Crews were called to a garage fire in Braintree last night.

On arrival on-call firefighters from Braintree and Coggeshall reported the garage was about 50% alight.

Firefighters worked hard to extinguish the fire quickly, stopping it spreading to nearby properties.

Crews were called to a library in Southend last night at 9.19pm after reports of a fire.

Visitors of a nearby pub saw flames, called 999 and poured water through a smashed window.

Firefighters fully extinguished the fire, ventilated the building and made sure it was safe.

A man was saved by his smoke alarm after falling asleep and setting fire to his mattress with a cigarette.

We were called to a flat in Vange Hill Drive, Basildon after a neighbour heard the alarm.

Two crews from Basildon rescued the man and extinguished the fire.
