WORLD BEE DAY 🐝

Bees are integral pollinators for many of our crops such as peas, beans and oilseed rape.

We work with local bee keepers to learn when there are periods of lower food resource and try to fill them with our environmental features.

2nd BBS visit to Dyson Farming Bonby Carrs this morning (40 species) with the wet spring legacy including breeding Shoveler, Shelduck, c.5 pairs of Lapwing & a pair of Oystercatcher. Also BOCC RED Cuckoo, Corn bunting, Yellowhammer, Yellow Wagtail & Skylarks.

🪺🪶 Fledglings can be spotted across the farms at this time of year, showing the positive results of the work we do.

We are also in the progress of checking our owl boxes and look forward to sharing the success in the coming weeks. 🦉

Last week we welcomed two groups to visit our lambs.

[NAME] Scouts visited on Wednesday before Billinghay Church of England Primary School payed us a visit on Thursday.

Both children and adults all enjoyed meeting some of our newest lambs.

We welcomed Kirkby-la-Thorpe Church of England Primary School to Nocton Farm a few weeks ago with LEAF Education.

The day involved a look around the farm, including the potato store, a scavenger hunt in Nocton Wood and pond dipping at Dunston Beck.

Now that we are seeing warmer days, we're seeing much more activity in our stone walls. 🐛

Still offering shelter from cold winds, the walls also create sun baking traps for cold blooded species such as the grass snake.

Farmland BBS for Dyson Farming at Roxholme, Lincs (5th year monitoring this 1km SQ); just 16 species in this SQ but packed with BOCC RED species including 9 singing Corn Buntings, 25 Linnets, 48 (!) singing Skylarks, Grey Partridge, Yellowhammer and 2 Schedule 1 breeding species.

Farmland BBS (Breeding Bird Surveys) for Dyson Farming at Cranwell, Lincs (the 5th year of monitoring this 1km SQ); with Grey Partridge, 2 pair of Curlew, 29 Linnet, 13 Meadow Pipit and 38 Skylarks

First farmland BBS of the year with walkover surveys Dyson Farming Bonby Carrs, lots of water with lapwing, redshank and snipe all recorded. Good numbers of Brown Hare and Roe Deer. Also, a few winter species still hanging on with c.10 Wigeon and 30+ Fieldfare still present...

💡 We are excited to be one of the first to supply summer-quality strawberries to consumers this year, grown under LEDs.

🍓 Look out for our strawberries in local farm shops, M&S and now also in Sainsbury’s!

💦 We collect water in times of heavy winter flows and store in reservoirs for use on the farm throughout the year.

These bodies of water also offer an important resource for wildlife in the area, including oyster catchers.
