The faculty that are coming to protect their students in the US, you are true teachers. You inspire. You lead. You protect. You honor your oath to serve education by action not just classroom speeches.

I’m in awe. May your bravery cast light on these dark times we are living.

I’m resigning from the board of Columbia Global Reports (a nonprofit publishing imprint from Columbia University) in solidarity with Columbia University students, staff, and faculty, as well as the present academic boycott of the institution

For the past six months, the University of Columbia and Barnard College have created a climate of repression and harm for students peacefully protesting for an end of the Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. 🧵

Nationalism is chametz, during Passover and always!

This year is unlike any other year. This Passover, at a time when the Israeli government continues its genocide of Palestinians in Gaza in full force, we cannot feast while there is famine. We gather to demand and dream

I asked them if any other ethnic clothing was banned. They said no, only this.

I asked them if they had a legal team verify this ban was not discriminatory. I was told they assumed that had happened but didn’t know for sure.

I let them know I’d be filing a challenge and left.

Today I tried to enter Queen’s Park wearing keffiyehs I inherited from my mom’s closet several years ago.

I was told I couldn’t wear my scarves— that they’re banned.

I told them I’m Palestinian and this is my heritage, and it’s my right to wear it and be treated equally.

This couple went to a peaceful protest with “JEW” written on her shirt, hoping to get yelled at. Instead she was ignored, with Jewish students holding a “Jews for Free Palestine” banner.

It’s not brave. It’s embarrassing and a shameful representation of our moral tradition.
