Always an excellent read from Nick Wallis. Particularly today when Vennells’ appearance before the inquiry has been overshadowed by other news.

Rishi Sunak has thrown a giant spanner into the works of the Hull & East Riding devo deal by calling an early General Election on July 4. It means the current timetable for the necessary parliamentary order to be laid will not be met before dissolution.

Not quite the first electric public transport in Hull but a positive move. Worth noting that original idea for charging points at the Interchange has been shelved in favour of chargers at bus company depots, to be shared with council and blue light services.

An archaeological dig earlier this year at the former Rank mill site next to the River Hull found medieval remains thought to be from the hamlet of Drypool. A follow-up community dig open to the public is planned for later this summer.

Nearly 2,000 council garages have been demolished in Hull over the last decade. More to follow with less than half of the remaining 4,000 currently occupied. What next for these spaces? Housing? Pocket parks? Parking? Imaginative thinking required.

Random housing (an occasional series): Surrounded by industrial units and yards, this 1840 property in Cooper Street is actually younger than it looks as a joiner who lived there in the 1970s added the ‘Georgian’ features, or so the story goes.

Lots more to come on NAPA Hull’s Big Build project but first just feast your eyes on the stunning main staircase in a building specifically designed to welcome in natural light. Pic credit: Robin Forster.

Grateful to Hull&Humber Chamber for giving me a platform to tell the region about good people (who might not be the usual business faces) doing good things. In this case, it’s Giroscope
