An archaeological dig earlier this year at the former Rank mill site next to the River Hull found medieval remains thought to be from the hamlet of Drypool. A follow-up community dig open to the public is planned for later this summer.

Nearly 2,000 council garages have been demolished in Hull over the last decade. More to follow with less than half of the remaining 4,000 currently occupied. What next for these spaces? Housing? Pocket parks? Parking? Imaginative thinking required.

Random housing (an occasional series): Surrounded by industrial units and yards, this 1840 property in Cooper Street is actually younger than it looks as a joiner who lived there in the 1970s added the ‘Georgian’ features, or so the story goes.

Walk on the wild side: Fascinating results from Hull in the annual City Nature Challenge. Total of 1,188 different species recorded.
