I'm on interim in an emotionally high stress setting where burnout is high. Something I just wanted to vent is this:

What I really desperately needed at secondary school was a place to be quiet and alone in the breaks. Even just for two minutes, not necessarily for a full hour. I don't and can't recharge around others. The peace of a moment totally alone is my gold. And you know? That is okay.

Schools should be secular, but if students want to use their free / break time to pray, meditate, or whatever ritual is expected of their faith, I think that's fine? In general I think giving access to quiet spaces at breaks would be positive for a huge number of students.

There's a difference between (disagreeable) free speech and hate speech and frankly, every single cockwomble who claims they don't know what that difference is actually knows perfectly well.

It is all very unfortunate. But to be honest I reserve my rage more for people like David Cameron who are of sound mind when they take terrible, weak decisions than for people like Truss who are just... downright silly.
