Never thought I'd see a Brown Hairstreak in June, in the UK ... Nonetheless, I saw a fresh male at Knepp today... As Fred Trueman used to say on Test Match Special, " I doan't know what's going off out there anymore.."

โ˜€๏ธ Starting to see the dark summer form of Small Copper on Southbourne Seafront. Their occurrence varies. Maybe the hot summer this year will increase the number ๐Ÿค” Dorset Wildlife Spot BC Dorset ๐Ÿฆ‹

Look what turned up on the heath today โ€” a Green Hairstreak butterfly! ๐Ÿ’šWith its striking emerald-green wings and quick, darting flight, this little beauty is a real heathland specialist and a joy to spot here at RSPB Arne. image credit David Morris (rspb-images.com)

On a mud-puddling site hundreds or even thousands of butterflies can gather for minerals (mostly males). During 40 years of butterflying I have see quite a few, but this site in SE France can now be added. Mostly Chalkhill Blue (P coridon).

This is an historic photo. Congratulations to William Brame (who took the photo) for realising this was a different white butterfly. Now confirmed by Chris van Swaay as a Southern Small White - the first seen in England. As it is a female let's hope it has been laying eggs.

BC Suffolk Branch Chris van Swaay Had this individual on Hartlepool Headland 1st July during a major movement of Large & Small Whites. ID software seems quite happy its mannii, as did Guy Padfield. Would be interested in a second opinion.
