Landowners in the Rosebud River Valley placed bat detectors this winter. There ARE Big Brown Bats hibernating all along the valley in at lease a 4 mile stretch. One more reason to protect all the habitat in and above the valley.

Suitable hibernation habitat for bats remains largely unidentified in most jurisdictions. Identified hibernation sites should consistently be recognized as key habitat that requires conservation & protection. In Alberta, prairie riparian badlands offer these features for bats.

Great to see this from KBA Canada 💚 ... but to be clear, the Carcross dunes aren't a true desert. They are remnants of formerly much more extensive dune fields in the SW Yukon, persisting because of a huge supply of sand and big winds out of the Coast Mtns.
