Seawater microbes are a reef’s 1st responders. Shifts in microbial communities correlate directly to environmental changes. During the #GreatBarrierReef #bleaching event, we sampled microbial communities to ID which may be used for predictive monitoring➡️ bit.ly/4c6jRqz
😎 Scientists throw on sunnies to filter blue light & count coral spat on #reefrestoration devices. Spat shine green revealing the corals’ fluorescent pigments, whilst crustose coralline algae shine bright pink.

Come work with us Australian Institute of Marine Science in our Reef Recovery, Adaptation and Restoration Program. We have two permanent positions available: 1) Aquaculture Geneticist and 2) Evolutionary Modeller. Please share! aims.gov.au/about/careers-…
Check out what we have been up to Australian Institute of Marine Science Great Barrier Reef Foundation with heat-evolved coral photosymbionts!
Epic field trip activated! Our scientists are heading to the north-west oceanic reefs following an uncertain summer. They’ll also get to know #AshmoreReef better for the Ocean Discovery & Restoration program, co-funded with Australian Marine Parks

Success! The Blue Carbon Seascapes team retrieved soil cores from a depth of 499m near #Ningaloo ! We’re exploring how we best protect & enhance the #bluecarbon process from tropical marine plants into our oceans, as a solution to #climatechange .

We’ve finished our largest ever science activity on the #GreatBarrierReef during a mass #coralbleaching event.
More than 40 scientists carried out in-water surveys to assess the fine-scale effects of heat stress this summer.
