Seawater microbes are a reef’s 1st responders. Shifts in microbial communities correlate directly to environmental changes. During the #GreatBarrierReef #bleaching event, we sampled microbial communities to ID which may be used for predictive monitoring➡️ bit.ly/4c6jRqz

The coral was reared during autumn spawning. It’s the 1st time our researchers have spawned, cultured & settled this species. 🥳

New study combines data from the Crown-of-thorns Starfish (COTS) Control Program + our Long-Term Monitoring Program (LTMP) to reveal benefits to coral cover when targeted culling of starfish occurs.

LTMP have monitored COTS & coral cover for decades.
