The entire baby boom generation, still the largest in Canadian history, will be 65 and older by 2029. They will need support from their Gen X & Gen Y children who will be the majority of the workforce. Significance: Aging population results in increased caregiving requirements.

Canadian Human Rights legislation prohibits discrimination on the basis of family status. Courts have established a person’s caregiving of family members as a protected ground. Employers are legally obligated to accommodate an employee who must provide care for a family member.
