Walking around it always strikes me that the best way to start a real recovery of native woodlands is to allow the pockets which remain to expand naturally. Presently these are often actively suppressed whilst we pay for woodland creation elsewhere I made a short video about it

Started this year with two of the best books I’ve read in a while. I highly recommend both. Both authors lament the alarming and increasing obsession with mown verges and sterilised gardens and greenspaces, or ‘ecological tidiness disorder’, as Benedict Macdonald calls it 👌

Back in 2017, my family and I set off on an expedition to explore the ancient silk road. Our epic journey of 10,000 kilometres took us westwards from Shanghai, China all the way to Karachi, Pakistan. Episode 1 of the series is online now: youtu.be/Qm4Zhs_By20 Silk Road Expedition

Wetland conservation is for everyone. – The Norwegian project Våtmarksløftet beautifully demonstrates this in a powerful short animation film, created with the help of 3,000 children! In the film, we follow the bar-tailed godwit on its dangerous journey between Norway and

Do you know what these pictures are of? These are pictures of you walking past litter in the street and tutting, then going home to sweep up and burn all the leaves so your lawn looks tidy. These are pictures of you complaining to the council that they haven't cut the grass

It is important to remember that it is not only people who suffer from smoke inhalation from wild fires. Wild animals also suffer from it. And generally they have almost no means of avoiding or escaping it, unlike most people. nationalgeographic.com/animals/articl…

The poor olive baboons caged inside Karachi zoo suffer in a colonial era style prison. No thought is given to their well-being, their complex need to forage on grasslands, forests and savannas, live in social groups to mate and raise young. Instead, concrete and rusty iron bars.

Wild bears in captivity in zoos and with individuals across Pakistan must be rehabilitated in species-specific sanctuaries. Himalayan brown bears do not belong in cages in Sindh or Punjab. They forage for food, live in dens and hibernate in winters. 🐻🐾❄️

In Armenia, conservationists have found bears illegally caged in restaurants, gas stations, hotels, bus stops, and backyards. Ahead of a major biodiversity summit next year, rescuers are working to free the dozens of bears still held in captivity. e360.yale.edu/features/armen…

Bibi lies with her hand on her face inside a squalid concrete cage at Karachi zoo. March 2025. Locked up in this dingy cell for 25 years after having been caught from a house in PECHS, she passed away yesterday. May she rest in eternal peace, free from pain and distress.

Can no one see this monkey’s agony? His thighs are red & raw; he seems to get some relief from pain by doing this action over & over again. #KarachiZoo, a funland for people, torture chamber for animals. Get this poor creature treated. Are you blind @KMC?
