I am one of the many NPR employees registered as a 'no party' DC voter who were conveniently excluded from the article's tally.😀

Moderator says @ ABA Antitrust Conference that private attorneys are having a harder job trying to warn their clients pursuing transactions of antitrust risks after stricter merger guidelines. AAG Jonathan Kanter’s response? “Our client is the public.”

When people are trying to undermine the press, they'll often do this: claim harassment when a reporter is doing their job. (I.e., ending a text, making a call, sending an email...doing everything to give someone a chance to comment out of fairness/an effort to get the full story)

Cool stuff: Robin Kaiser-Schatzlein feature 'Is This The End of Prison Phone Fees?'—that we worked on with Economic Hardship Reporting Project—was nominated for a Deadline Club Award for Magazine Feature Reporting. Give it a read:

When the Key bridge fells 2.5 weeks ago, we were on site literally before daybreak. We went live to the scene, talked to the people immediately impacted, and streamed accurate up to date info for days. We continue to report the follow up. That's public radio.

We are 20 years away from white people no longer being the majority.

In a new book excerpt, Ari Berman writes about how some conservatives are fighting what they view as a coming siege with suppression tactics and censoring.

NEW: Today, the AZ Supreme Court upheld a Civil War-era abortion ban from 1864, making nearly all abortions in the state illegal and potentially criminalizing healthcare providers with up to five years in prison.

Think Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are rich now? The share of the nation’s wealth held by the richest 0.01% of households has more than tripled since 1982. We're well on our way to having trillionaires among us... motherjones.com/politics/2024/…

My colleague Abby Vesoulis looks at whether recent anti-abortion moves in Florida can help Dems in 2024. Important stuff.

Yesterday, the Indiana Court of Appeals agreed with a lower court that religious-freedom objections to the state's abortion ban are valid.

A year ago, I wrote about this growing religious movement to *save* abortion rights in 4 states.

.Abby Vesoulis w/ the most nuanced, substantive piece I’ve read on what the dueling Florida abortion rulings *actually* mean for state & national Dems…& what work they’ll still have to do to turn Florida blue regardless ⤵️

Spoke to Melissa Murray (@ProfMMurray on Threads 🧵) about why Americans should be worried about this ⤵️

(Spoiler alert: In criminalizing gay sex, the Ugandan high court cited Dobbs...thereby doing exactly what Clarence Thomas suggested: using it to roll back other intimate rights 🫣)

NEW Mother Jones: Uganda cited Dobbs to back an anti-LGBTQ crackdown. Americans should be worried too.

The ruling 'suggests how easily [Dobbs] might be deployed in our country for the same thing,' Melissa Murray (@ProfMMurray on Threads 🧵) told me. ⤵️

We’re going to make sure that Floridians remember that Rick Scott has been leading the attack on women’s rights for years. This November, he won’t be able to hide from his record. motherjones.com/politics/2024/…
