Joel Ashton ππ³π Rescue Hoad's Wood πππ I completely agree Joel. I have never understood the concept of #nomowmay and have always had a #nomosummer in a patch in the garden. Otherwise I would not get any oxeydaisies, poppies or corncockle!
Thereβs something that needs addressing. I felt compelled to make this video to explain why a #NoMowMay , if undertaken on its own, is a PROBLEM for #wildlife . This video will no doubt ruffle feathers, but people need the right informationπ #NoMowSummer

Warwickshire County Council Yes. Please watch this video. #NoMowMay is a disaster. Grasses/flowers must be left until ideally mid September. We saw you last June frantically cutting all the long grass. Why invite insects there and then destroy everything mid cycle? Nonsensical.

π§΅(1/2) Just watched Joel Ashton ππ³π 's video on 'No Mow May'. He has made some very good points about planning for wildlife in the longer term and not simply devoting one month to e.g no mowing, strimming ect... (more on the next post below) #wildlife #gardening
Joel Ashton ππ³π I have turned #nomowmay into #nomowsummer for the past 5 years. The result last year was having 3 of these beauties (sorry for the poor photo
Joel Ashton ππ³π A similar situation with set-aside schemes on arable farms when I did my MSc research project years ago. Years of great habitat evolving then all gone the next year just when ground nesting birds (plus other groups) had maximized their use of the temporary site.
Joel Ashton ππ³π I did no more May last year and it turned into now may summer. So much wildlife appeared, new (to me) meadow butterflies, I just couldn't mow after seeing them β₯οΈ I maintained the strips around borders, I think it worked well, will be doing the same this year
A fine display of dandelions and a couple of others at our place in mid Powys attracting insects, fabulous! Missed the peacock butterfly, sorry. We always get a fair few new species, lovely to see them doing their thing. Iolo Williams Bee Network Cath HODSMAN, Insect Art Joel Ashton ππ³π
Putting the ride-on mower into storage for #NoMowMay ? Think about extending this to a #NoMowSummer
Tips from Joel Ashton ππ³π here!
#NoMowSummer If youβve got grassy patches you can leave for #bees #Butterflies and other useful #insects and #Wildlife donβt mow until mid-late September. #VIDEO via Joel Ashton ππ³π
