Warwickshire County Council Yes. Please watch this video. is a disaster. Grasses/flowers must be left until ideally mid September. We saw you last June frantically cutting all the long grass. Why invite insects there and then destroy everything mid cycle? Nonsensical.

🧡(2/2) Joel has also suggested alternatives for those who cannot undertake a full meadow transformation to your garden, including mowing a border for wildlife or planting out a nectar lawn. You only need a meter squared patch to start with rewilding πŸ’šyoutube.com/watch?v=MpCyG8…

🧡(1/2) Just watched Joel Ashton πŸƒπŸŒ³πŸƒ 's video on 'No Mow May'. He has made some very good points about planning for wildlife in the longer term and not simply devoting one month to e.g no mowing, strimming ect... (more on the next post below)

Joel Ashton πŸƒπŸŒ³πŸƒ A similar situation with set-aside schemes on arable farms when I did my MSc research project years ago. Years of great habitat evolving then all gone the next year just when ground nesting birds (plus other groups) had maximized their use of the temporary site.

Joel Ashton πŸƒπŸŒ³πŸƒ I did no more May last year and it turned into now may summer. So much wildlife appeared, new (to me) meadow butterflies, I just couldn't mow after seeing them β™₯️ I maintained the strips around borders, I think it worked well, will be doing the same this year

Really easy to understand video here and answered many questions I’ve had in recent years about No Mow May. Last year especially, when I accidentally injured a beautiful moth in the longer grass. Like Dry January these things are only as good as the behaviour change they inspire

A fine display of dandelions and a couple of others at our place in mid Powys attracting insects, fabulous! Missed the peacock butterfly, sorry. We always get a fair few new species, lovely to see them doing their thing. Iolo Williams Bee Network Cath HODSMAN, Insect Art Joel Ashton πŸƒπŸŒ³πŸƒ
